espnFor more than 40 years, the UCA National High School Cheerleading Championship has been the culmination of the season for cheerleaders across the nation. It’s the most prestigious high school national championship in the country and the perfect opportunity for cheerleading teams to get together and celebrate each other at the Most Magical Place on Earth, Walt Disney World Resort.

d1Kingwood arrived on Thursday, February 6 and began practicing their routine. They advanced and competed in the semi-finals on Saturday and then on to the finals on Sunday. In Sunday's finals, Kingwood placed 7th. Kingwood brought 37 Cheerleaders and the Mustang Mascot.

Coach Van Christman said, "We asked the squad what they wanted history to say about their time at Kingwood. Only they have the ability to write their history. This team is the first ever from Kingwood High to make it to the NHSCC Finals and then they got 7th in the Nation in one of the hardest divisions! I'm so proud of them."

ch 7Stephanie Pelfrey is the Assistant Coach for Kingwood Cheerleading. She said, "To say I am proud is quite an understatement.  This team has grown so much and they left it all out on the mat at Nationals.  Our big push was to leave your legacy on the Kingwood High School Cheer program and they did just that.  Finaling at Nationals this year is a feeling I hope they never forget, I know I will never forget it, in all my almost 30 years of teaching this tops them all!! The community should be so proud of these young ladies, they represented our State and Community so well and left our mark on the cheer world! "
