Kingwood Middle School Principal Michael Curl was named the 2024-2025 Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) Region 4 Outstanding Middle School Principal of the Year at the annual summer workshop.
“Our students and staff are working daily to ensure that the educational experience at Kingwood Middle School and Humble ISD is top-tier,” Curl said. “To win this award means our students are engaging with our teachers and the curriculum and our teachers are making sure our students are seen and valued. This in turn allows our families to know that their children are well taken care of when they send them to us.”
At Kingwood Middle School, there is a commitment to fostering an inclusive and effective learning environment.
According to Curl, a prioritization of a leadership approach that seamlessly integrates the diverse needs of individual students with the overarching goals of the school community is key to their success at Kingwood Middle School.
“Mr. Curl has created and nurtured a safe, harmonious atmosphere among the diverse cultures within our school that has heavily impacted our community,” Kingwood Middle School Teacher Shelbie Hall said. “Not only do we as a campus see this in what he says, we see it in what he does every day.”
This is the second-straight year Curl has been recognized by TASSP.
In 2023, Curl was awarded the TASSP Diversity Leadership Award recipient for middle schools and also earned the 2023 Deans Roundtable Award for Transformational Leadership by Texas A&M's School of Education and Human Development.
“It's humbling and a blessing to be recognized by my peers in Region IV in back-to-back years,” Curl said. “I am grateful to our learning community in Humble ISD and here at Kingwood Middle School, which facilitates an environment where we can serve in a way recognized by others in our region. The students, staff, and community support our efforts to create an educational environment where members feel seen and valued. We strive daily to create an exceptional learning experience for our families and this recognition helps confirm we are on the right track.”
