Kingwood Park High School was one of 10 schools in the nation to be named as The George H. Gallup Award winner in the 2024 Quill and Scroll News Media Evaluation Service.
"I love seeing last year's staff honored because it was loaded with talent from the senior class to the freshmen,” Kingwood Park High School Student Publications Adviser Megan Ortiz said. “They put in so many hours and had such creative ideas. It was one of my favorite years of teaching. I showed up to work each day excited to see what they were going to create in the classroom. They never disappointed."
The award was for the Kingwood Park Times staff for work in the 2023-2024 school year. Kingwood Park is one of two schools in the State of Texas to earn the award, joining “The Shield” from McCallum High School in Austin.
Named for the founder of Quill and Scroll and the Gallup Poll, the award is given only to those publications that achieved and sustained excellence during the 2023-2024 academic year.
Gallup Award recognition is based on extraordinary improvement, exceptional service to the school and community, editorial campaigns and in-depth reporting on special issues.
“One thing Kingwood Park Times understands exceptionally well is the mindset necessary to produce stories on multiple platforms. Each platform gets the attention it deserves,” Quill and Scroll Judges said in a statement.
