Four individual runners and two cross country teams from Humble ISD have qualified for the 2024 UIL State Cross Country Championships in Round Rock, Texas.

The Kingwood High School girls cross country team finished second overall at the Region III-6A Cross Country Meet. The Mustangs scored 116 points and were led by Eliana Contreras (4th overall, 18:12.07) and Clara Dye (10th overall, 18:48.55).

Summer Creek High School boys cross country team made history as they qualified for the UIL State Cross Country meet as a team for the first time ever. District 23-6A Champion Da’Juan Allison cruised in at sixth overall at 15.41.71 to lead the Bulldogs. Caden Perry and Michael Ernst finished in 32nd and 35th, respectively.

Individually, Atascocita High School’s Eli Mugambi found the podium at the Region III-6A Championships finishing third with a time of 15:26.66. Kingwood’s Emilio Garza crossed the finish line in 11th overall clocking in at 15:50.09.

At the UIL State Cross Country Meet, Class 6A is slated to compete on Friday, November 1, with girls running at 10:45 a.m. and boys running at 11:25 a.m.

In Class 5A, Kingwood Park’s Elijah Merino and Carson Brown punched their tickets to Round Rock.

Merino, who finished as the District Runner-Up at the 18-5A District Championships, finished fifth overall (15:51.00), while Brown came in right behind him in seventh (15:58.74).

The Kingwood Park duo will compete at the UIL State Cross Country Meet on Saturday, November 2, with their race slated for a 11:25 a.m. start.
