The day started with 36 Humble ISD elementary and middle school students going head-to-head, rather word-for-word, in the 2024 Humble ISD Spelling Bee on January 27.
Words like Erlenmeyer flask and ranunculus were among those that had to be spelt correctly in the intense 10-round event.
In the end, Riverwood Middle School’s Ali Khawaja took home the top spot by spelling bereavement correctly. Khawaja now moves on to the Houston Community College Regional Spelling Bee, which will be held in March.
Willow Creek Elementary’s Parker Thompson finished as the Runner-Up for the 2024 Humble ISD Spelling Bee.
