Summer Creek's Kenny Harrison and North Shore's Willie Gaston are the Touchdown Club of Houston UIL Coaches of the Year.

This is just the third time in the history of the award that there has been a tie for the Coach of the Year. The last time it happened it was 2014 when Crosby's Jeff Riordan and Westfield's Corby Meekins tied. Prior to that in 1997, Alief Hastings Bobby Stuart and Texas City's Rusty Dowling tied.

The award was announced on Wednesday night during the organizations annual dinner at the Bayou City Event Center.

Harrison is the third coach from Humble ISD to ever win this accolade, joining Humble’s Neal Quillin (1995) and Kingwood’s Mike Unger (1990). Harrison was one of 12 finalists for the annual award, which has been given since 1988. Atascocita coach Craig Stump was also a finalist for the award.

The Port Arthur native arrived at Summer Creek High School in 2018 and as been at the helm of the Bulldogs since. Including this season, Harrison is 48-26 at the helm of Summer Creek.

Summer Creek has made history this season advancing to its first-ever State Semifinal game last week. With a 38-14 victory over Cibolo Steele, the Bulldogs advanced on to play for the Class 6A Division II State Championship on Saturday inside AT&T Stadium this Saturday.

The Bulldogs (14-1) are the first-ever Humble ISD football program to play for a state championship.
