When Brooke Lloyd crossed the finish line to cap the Summer Creek 4x400-meter relay, it clinched a gold medal for the Bulldogs for the race and a third overall finish in the 2024 UIL State Track & Field Meet in Austin, Texas.
Summer Creek finished the event with 52 points, good for third place overall just behind Shadow Creek and team state champion Duncanville.
“Amongst the stars of determination, resilience, and unwavering spirit, the girls soared to third overall,” Summer Creek girls track and field coach Ahmad Roper said. “This showcased the power of teamwork and passion.”
The day started with Brianna Rivers claiming the first gold for the Bulldogs in the high jump.
Rivers cleared 5-feet-7-inches on her first attempt, which was good to claim the Class 6A High Jump Championship.
“Brianna’s gold medal shone as a testament to her relentless dedication and indomitable spirit,” Roper said. “Inspiring us all to reach for our dreams with unwavering resolve.”
Madisyn Jackson also had a personal-best day in the 400-meter race clocking in a time of 53.96. That was good for third place.
The rest of the points came from the Bulldogs relay teams. The 4x200-meter relay of Laila Walker, Trinity Williams, Phoenix Phillips and Lloyd. brought home silver after a school record time of 1:35.82.
Atascocita freshman Kimble takes Silver in Discus
If you didn’t know who Jayden Kimble was heading into this track and field season, considering she was a freshman, now you know.
The Atascocita hurler made her first UIL State Track & Field appearance and didn’t disappoint after winning the Region III-6A Championship just two weeks prior.
In Austin, Kimble in her final throw of the day hit for 157-feet-5-inches, which was good enough to take silver in the Class 6A girls discus competition.
Kingwood Park’s Daniel takes Bronze in Shot Put
Courtney Daniel was set to have a busy schedule at the Class 5A State Track & Field Meet on Friday, considering she was participating in both throwing events.
The Kingwood Park High School junior found her way to the podium in the shot put. Daniel’s third throw of the competition, which hit at 45-feet-5.75-inches, was good enough for third place overall.
