The High School State Visual Art Scholastic Event (State VASE) is the pinnacle event that celebrates the hard work and creativity of art students, teachers and administrators in Texas throughout the year.

This year, out of more than 33,000 entries, Humble ISD had two students receive Gold Seal and State Championship honors.

Summer Creek High School’s Angelica Medina won with her glass piece “Happiness Comes in Waves”. Her teacher is Natasha Burd. Kingwood High School’s Paris Howard won with her mixed media piece “Kisses at Dawn”. Her teacher is Melissa Frye.

The students and teachers were honored at the May 14, 2024 Humble ISD School Board Meeting for their accomplishments.

State VASE begins with each of the 20 Regional Events scheduled during February. This year more than 33,000+ student artworks were entered in regional events. Of the 33,000+ student entries, only 350 artworks advanced to the state VASE competition. At the state VASE competition, 165 student artworks are chosen as Gold Seal and State Champions. That is less than 1% of the 33,000+ VASE entries for the 2023-2024 academic year.
