Google Photos

Student access to Google Photos will be disabled July 1 to prioritize network for educational purposes only

Humble ISD provides students ample storage space to create, organize and store all of their school work. Each student is given a custom email address with the domain humbleisd.net and allocated Google Drive space:

High School:              3.0 GB
Middle School:           2.0 GB
Elementary School:   1.0 GB

Students can use their Google Drive to store any file type, including documents, images and videos, and can use Google tools such as Docs, Slides, Sheets, Classroom, Calendar and Sites. These technology resources are to be utilized for educational purposes only.

Effective July 1, 2024, Humble ISD will disable student access to the Google Photos tool. Students were using this tool as online storage and/or backup for their personal photo and video files, which leads to excessive usage of our educational technology infrastructure.  This can negatively impact the overall functionality of our network resources. (It was announced earlier this school year that access would be disabled May 6, but it has been extended to July 1.)

On July 1, student access to the Google Photos platform will be disabled, and all files associated with Google Photos will be deleted. If students want to save their personal data (photos, videos) from Google Photos, they will need to download their data to an external hard drive, a flash drive, to another device, or to a personal (not humbleisd.net) account.

We recognize that Google Photos is a convenient tool, but we must prioritize the efficient and responsible use of our network resources to ensure a smooth learning environment for all students. This change is due to Google for Education launching a new policy in 2022 that limits free storage for all school districts. As a result, we have had to implement storage constraints to comply with Google-allocated limits.

Thank you, students, for removing your photos and videos from Google Photos before July 1.
