Hi! My name is Joy Alexander and I am the director of the West Lake Middle School Luminaires! The 2023/2024 school year marks my first year here at WLMS and my 4th year teaching. I am excited to be a part of this amazing school and dance program and help to build a strong and thriving dance program and culture. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to share my passion for dance with my students and all of WLMS Wolves.
I grew up in Beaumont, TX and was a 3 year member of the West Brook STARS Drill Team where I served as a Junior Lieutenant and Captain my senior year. I was also a member of iRule Dance studio and 3 year Senior Company Member. During my time on both teams I performed in California and New York, attended classes at Alvin Ailey and Broadway Dance Center, and worked with a TONY Award winning choreographer and many other big name choreographers. After graduating I attended Sam Houston State University and was a 3 year member of the Orange Pride Dance Team (Eat ‘Em Up Kats!).
After graduating from Sam Houston I took a year off and taught dance at iRule Dance Studio. After that year off I moved to Dallas to complete my Masters in Education from Dallas Baptist University and in 2020 started my teaching career. I taught elementary for 3 years before making the move to middle school. I still enjoy taking dance classes around the Houston area. If I’m not working I’m either with my family, traveling, or trying new and exciting things around the city.
I love being a part of the WLMS community and can’t wait to see what this year has in store!
