Humble ISD will be closed on Friday, May 3, 2024.
Harris County has asked multiple communities in our school district to evacuate. As you know, heavy rainfall caused Lake Conroe, Lake Livingston, Lake Houston, both the East and West Forks of the San Jacinto River, and other creeks to rise. Additionally, authorities are planning a massive release of water from both Lake Conroe and Lake Livingston, which will bring the East and the West forks of the San Jacinto River to major flood stages – impacting many of our staff, students, families, and community members.
While we had planned to wait for an 8 PM weather and flooding update from Houston Flood Control, inundation maps have made any predicted rainfall for tomorrow morning moot. The release of Lakes Livingston and Conroe will give us more water than we can safely handle, so there will be no school Friday, May 3, 2024.
Our 2023-2024 academic calendar included ample state-required instructional minutes to accommodate such a weather-related closure, eliminating the need for a make-up day.

The softball team won its first game against Whitehouse in its best-of-three series. The first round of the playoffs started on Thursday.
Junior Courtney Daniel won gold at the Region Meet in the discus and shot put last weekend. She advanced to the State Championships in both events.
Senior Alex Wright played piano during the Senior Glowcase. A number of seniors performed to kickoff Senior Week.
The Top 10 for the Class of 2024 was announced on April 11. The valedictorian was Reese Shaw and salutatorian was Sloane Meeks. The rest of the Top 10 included: Maya Ortiz, Alice Early, Brady Jones, Eva Abshire, Patteson Cash, Sienna Morales, Ian Maxwell and Addie Colescott.

Off to the races! Physics students tested the buoyancy of the boats they made on April 3 in the natatorium.
The drum line helped lead the state send-off for HOSA and Robotics students on Tuesday.
The JV girls track team raced away with the district title at Turner Stadium. The boys and girls teams each collected a lot of medals.

Hands-on activities are a regular in science classes. This week was no different as some students had the opportunity to dissect turtles.
Senior Leah Torres leads the girls golf team as the District Tournament gets underway today at the Atascocita Country Club.
All Humble ISD offices and campuses will be closed March 11-15 for Spring Break. Classes resume on Monday, March 18, for middle and high school students. Elementary students have a student holiday/staff workday and will resume classes on Tuesday, March 19.
Students enjoyed taking part in the in the district's integrated track meet on March 1 at Turner Stadium.
Seniors were trained in CPR on Tuesday morning. It is part of a graduate requirement.
Aquatic science teacher Jacob Butcher drills a hole in a boat made by students as they work on a Titanic simulation and testing which boats will float.
Senior Maya Ortiz was named 1st runner-up in the TAJE Texas High School Journalist of the Year competition. She created a portfolio of her four years of award-winning work. She is currently the editor-in-chief of the Kingwood Park Times.
The band performed at the final pep rally of the year on Feb. 23.
More than 50 NHS students participated in a district-wide leadership conference on Feb. 29. The group combined with NHS students from other high schools to practice and learn leadership skills.
Cheer tryouts are nearing! They will be held March 5-8.
